There are plenty of famous names with a connection to our county, whether in the field of sport, the arts or politics.
Then there are those who have served their community, unsung heroes, people who have battled against adversity.
Over the coming year we're running details of 180 people Somerset is proud to claim as its own.
Here are a few to get you started, but we'd love to hear from you about anyone who deserves a mention - maybe a great teacher, someone who has helped the young, a charity worker.
