CHILDREN and young people with learning disabilities will have even better educational opportunities when Selworthy School, in Taunton, relocates, according to Rebecca Pow, who is standing for the Conservatives in the General Election in Taunton Deane.
Ms Pow visited Selworthy to discuss potential opportunities for learners and their families when the school to the site of the former St Augustine of Canterbury School.
She said: “Selworthy is a special school with an excellent reputation but it is bursting at the gunnels and by transferring to a new site it will be able to expand, taking more children and offering much needed specialist facilities not only for the students but for their families too.
“It also offers the opportunity to create a centre for excellence and a hub for all related care services as well as a play centre which could profoundly improve the journey for many children with learning disabilities.
“There is currently nothing like this on offer anywhere across Taunton Deane from Wellington to Taunton and nothing like it much further afield across Somerset either and I am fully supporting this exciting project.”
