THE Avenue in Minehead will be lit up by glowing globes in a scheme approved by West Somerset Council.
The Minehead Illuminations Project, spearheaded by Minehead Chamber of Commerce, aims to install over 5,000 decorative LED lights on 26 of the 56 trees lining the town’s premier street.
The final sum of Section 106 money given to West Somerset Council by Morrisons will fund the project.
The project’s total cost is £40,369.09 and the final £34,416.76 from the Morrisons fund has been allocated to it.
As well as lighting up The Avenue, the scheme will provide an illuminated sign for the Regal Theatre at a cost of £5,000, partly funded by the Chamber and the theatre.
Cllr Mandy Chilcott said: “I’m so excited about these lights and hopefully it will increase the footfall in Minehead.
“I’m confident people will come to see the lights and I can’t wait to see what they’re like in the summer.”
