A FORMER high-flying computer expert sent a delayed text message to the police before taking his own life so that his parents wouldn’t find him dead, an inquest has heard.
Adam John Pacey, 35, of Ardwyn, Wellington, was a perfectionist who “always pushed himself to the limit”, which caused him stress and anxiety, his father Martin claimed.
But he felt the treatment and advice he was given over a number of years was ineffective and often refused to take his medication.
Martin Pacey said: “Adam said he couldn’t cope with two days a week at work and he started to withdraw into himself and appeared very depressed in the last two weeks of his life.”
In the text to police, Adam, who was working as a postman at the time of his death on May 10, said: “Suicide attempt, back door open...please find me before the family don’t have to.”
A police officer went to the family home and discovered Adam’s body in his bedroom with notes explaining his actions, saying nothing could have been done to help him.
Senior coroner for Somerset Tony Williams recorded a conclusion that Adam took his own life, with the cause of death helium asphyxia.
