The Duke of Cambridge thanked the guests attending the £150 ticket event for not letting "a little rain spoil a good day out" and praised his "granny" as someone "we all look up to in good times and in challenging moments to set an example''.

The Queen in response made the crowds laugh when she joked about future renditions of Happy Birthday: "I much appreciate the kindness of all your birthday wishes, and have been delighted and moved by the many cards and messages I have received.

"How I will feel if people are still singing Happy Birthday to me in December remains to be seen.''

The Queen also paid a visit to Clayhidon where she spoke to chairman Richard Kallaway and local farmer Phil Blackmore.

Nearly 100 parishioners turned up at a parish hall festooned with union jacks for a royal tea party, and because her real majesty was busy elsewhere a life-size cardboard cut-out was recruited to welcome well-wishers.

At the end she was auctioned to raise funds for the hall and St Andrew's Church.

The party was part of a weekend of events in Clayhidon.

It was followed on Sunday by a special service in the church.

Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow joined residents of Langford Budville to unveil a plaque for the Queen’s 90th Birthday on Friday.

The plaque, which read: "This oak tree was planted in 2016 to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. Britain’s longest reigning monarch"; was displayed next to a commemorative oak tree, planted on the village green.

Rebecca said: "I am sure many of the children from the local school will remember that they were part of this historic event as they grow up and recall a dedicated monarch who did so much for us."

Following the event, the crowd embarked on singing the British national anthem, ‘God save the Queen’ before returning to the village hall for tea and cupcakes.

Churchstanton Primary School held their own Street Party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday party.

The road outside school was closed to traffic on Friday and children enjoyed the party atmosphere, complete with bunting and flags, as they ate sandwiches and themed party food.

This marked the end of a week of celebrations where children also took part in a Queen Liz Quiz.
