IT'S not every day you see a seal - and certainly not on the Somerset Levels, 17 miles from the sea.
But that was what happened to wildlife photographer - and Somerset Camera Club member - Carl Bovis on Sunday (August 5).
Mr Bovis received a message from a friend who had spotted the animal and made his way to the location, on the banks of the River Parrett, on the Levels.
"It was unbelievable to see this animal 17 miles up river from the sea on the Somerset Levels," he said.
Seals are known to venture inland in search of food and usually find their own way back to the sea.
However, fellow commenters on social media said the animal seemed happy enough on the Levels.
Tamzin Balmer wrote: "I saw her a few weeks ago and was worried that she is lost, however she seems to be very content and has plenty of fish.
"I can't help thinking she is lonely though.
"I have heard reports that she has tried to play with dogs on the banks of the river."
