A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call from a member of the public reporting a car on fire at the above location.
"Two fire engines from Taunton and Bridgwater were immediately mobilised by fire control.
"On arrival the Incident Commander confirmed one vehicle on the hard shoulder to be well alight, and got to work using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, a dry powder extinguisher and a thermal imaging camera to extinguisher the fire.
"The incident was handed over to the vehicle owners and highways."
