POLICE have now re-opened the A358 in both directions following the earlier hay lorry fire.
The A358 at West Hatch was closed in both direction due to a lorry fire between West Hatch Lane and Rapps.
Drivers were advised of queuing traffic while the incident is being dealt with.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said earlier: "We have closed the A358 both directions around West Hatch Lane, between Ilminster and Taunton whilst we deal with a lorry fire.
"Apologies for the inconvenience. Fire appliances from Taunton, Bridgwater and Ilminster are at the scene."
One fire crew remains at the scene damping down hotspots.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has now issued a statement saying it received multiple call about the vehicle fire.
The fire was in the rear of a trailer unit involving rear tyres and straw.
Police attended for traffic management.
The incident commander confirmed that the trailer was carrying 31 tonnes of straw and approximately two to three tonnes was involved in fire.
A local farmer assisted the crews with a mechanical grab to remove the straw bales from the trailer.
The incident commander requested an ambulance for the driver who had suffered minor burns.
The incident commander believed the cause of the fire was due to the tyre exploding. This was an accidental ignition.
