FIREFIGHTERS from Taunton and Wellington were called to a tractor fire near a village in the Blackdown Hills yesterday morning.
Fire engines from both towns and a water carrier from Bridgwater were called to the fire near Symonsburrow, which is close to Hemyock and the Devon-Somerset border.
The emergency service was called at 10:22am.
A spokesperson for the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said: “Fire control received a call to a tractor on fire just outside of Symonsburrow.
“Fire engines from Taunton and Wellington were mobilised as well as a water carrier from Bridgwater.
“The crew used a breathing apparatus wearer with a compressed air foam jet to extinguish the fire.
“Unfortunately, the tractor was 100 per cent damaged by the fire.”
On Friday, firefighters from Wellington attended a small vehicle fire in West Buckland at around 8:42pm.
One vehicle was found “well alight” outside a property.
Crews took one fire engine to the scene and extinguished the fire using breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, and small tools.
The incident report says the vehicle was ‘50 per cent damaged’ by the fire.
The report adds: “The cause of this fire was believed to be accidental.”
The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service helps around 650 people whose vehicle has caught fire every year.
On Thursday, Somerset fire crews attended an incident at a betting shop in Chard involving a leaking air conditioning system.
One person was taken to hospital “after suffering the effect of gas” and two others were treated at the scene.
