FIREFIGHTERS from four fire stations were called out to tackle a blaze in a scrapyard in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, April 12).
The fire in Glastonbury involved around 50 or 60 tonnes of scrap metal and was reported to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) at 4.46am.
Firefighters from Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Street and Wells were sent to the scene.
A DSFRS spokesperson said: "Two fire crews were sent to a report of a fire within the grounds of a scrapyard.
"On arrival they found a large fire involving scrap metal.
"A further fire engine and aerial ladder platform was requested.
"This fire involved approximately 50 to 60 tonnes of scrap metal."
The fire was extinguished using three main jets and one foam jet.
The spokesperson added: "The owner also assisted with his mechanical grabber.
"The cause of the fire was accidental."
