THE M5 northbound between Wellington (Junction 26) and Taunton (Junction 25) was closed earlier this morning (Friday, August 4) due to a vehicle fire.
The incident was reported at around 8.40am and firefighters and police were in attendance.
Southbound traffic also slowed as motorists witnessed the incident.
Two lanes have since reopened, although there were two-mile tailbacks which are gradually clearing.
Recovery of the vehicle involved is taking place.
Travel Somerset earlier tweeted:
#M5: Traffic is being held northbound between J26 #Wellington and J25 #Taunton - unfortunately a vehicle has caught fire. If you're already on the motorway, thank you for your patience; if you aren't, please seek an alternative route!
