FORMER Taunton Town midfielder Chris Myers took over as new player-manager of Screwfix League side Dawlish Town this week -- on the advice of his ex-boss Russell Musker, writes Greg Jackson.
Taunton's manager received a phone call from the Devon club, who have lost their opening eight Premier Division matches, asking if he could suggest anyone to fill their vacant manager's slot.
"They gave me a call and asked if I could recommend anyone, and I immediately thought of Chris," said Musker.
"They spoke to him and were very impressed with what he had to say.
"I knew he was interested in getting into management, and if he gets his knee right, he can play as well."
Former Torquay Utd and Burnley midfielder Myers left Taunton two weeks ago by mutual consent after discovering he needed an operation on a troublesome knee.
"I'm delighted for Chris after what's happened, and I wish him all the best," Musker added.
And Myers has already started repaying Musker. On Wednesday he gave three Taunton players -- Gary Fisher, Danny Lewis and Derek Field -- a run out in Dawlish's 4-2 Devon Bowl defeat at home to Elmore.
Taunton are without a game tomorrow (Saturday) as they were due to be playing Atherstone Utd, but the Midlands club have recently folded.
Their next match is home to Cirecenster in the Western Division of the Dr Martens League next Wednesday (October 22, 7.45pm kick off). Three days later they are home again in the league -- to Shepshed Dynamo.
Musker has confirmed that former Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City striker Sean McCarthy will not be returning to the club. McCarthy's last appearance for Town was in the opening day league defeat against Bromsgrove Rovers in August.
