AFTER winning the 2023 Somerset Juniors Golf West Division League, a team of five Taunton and Pickeridge Juniors travelled to Long Sutton Golf Club on Sunday to play in the county final .
Their opponents in the Somerset Final were Juniors from Wells Golf Club who were the East Division winners.
The final was a keenly contested affair but at the end of the day it was Wells Juniors who played exceptionally well to become champions and win the Somerset Junior League Shield 2023.
The winning Stableford score on the day was 39 points from Freya of Wells while Tate Sinfield-Day of T&P scored 37 points for second place. Points were awarded from 1st place to 10th to create a team scores. The Juniors from both teams were a credit to their clubs.
Mike Hooper the Somerset Junior Organiser said: “Wells and Taunton & Pickeridge Juniors were all a credit to their team and clubs today, and thanks must go to Long Sutton and a special mention to James the Assistant Professional for his help and support which was brilliant.
He added: “It was great to see all of the juniors and their parents all together in the bar afterwards for the presentation. Well done everyone.”
The winner of Sunday’s Stableford at T&P was Brett Baker with 38 points, four ahead of second placed Geoff Dight who returned with 34. Third place was claimed by Tony Reed with 32 points, but two players carded 30 however after count back it was Mark Goodridge who edged into fourth ahead of Andrew Staines.
