YEOVIL Town has announced that a new date has been fixed for the club to hold a special football match in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Glovers' finest FA Cup giant-killing feat.
The Glovers - under the leadership of legendary player-manager Alec Stock - between the talk of the football world in January 1949 when they beat the then mighty Sunderland 2-1 at the old sloping pitch of Huish.
Sixty years on and none of the heroes from the Yeovil side of that day are still with us, but the club want to commemorate the diamond anniversary of when the Glovers firmly put themselves on the football map.
A special match between a Yeovil Town Legends X1 and a Sunderland Legends X1 has been arranged. The game was originally scheduled to have taken place on January 29 - the actual annivesary date of Yeovil's win over Sunderland - but had to be cancelled because the Huish Park pitch was unfit.
But now club bosses have announced that the match is now back on.
A new date has been finalised and the game will now take place on Sunday, May 3 - the day after the Glovers take on Colchester United at Huish Park in their final match of the 2008-09 season.
The kick-off of the Legends game has yet to be confirmed, while the club is also planning to hold a family day prior to the commemorative fixture.
More details will be announced nearer the time.
