BRAZZ comedy was on the cards once again as I embarked on my final comedy review for the County Gazette.
Having visited many comedy events over the past few months, you would have thought I’d figured out the basics of where to sit by now.
Unfortunately, I was clocked within the first 10 minutes by MC Sheraz Yousaf, who couldn’t help but notice my loneliness and asked me what my occupation was – queue the heckling for the evening.
Sheraz often asked me how the night was going, the only heckle I could give in return was “how long are you on for?” which, well, wasn’t hilarious but we both knew it was only a laugh – it is comedy after all.
The first main act of the night was Glaswegian Larry Dean, or was he from Twickenham? No wait, he’s Glaswegian, he just likes to trick people. The comic got the night going with a hilarious impression of a ‘homosexual Velociraptor’ and talked quite openly about his sexuality and how his dad lost out on a tenner because of it.
Middle men Richard Lindesay and Tim O’Connor were all about props; Richard gave witty one-liners and showed us his bucket list, which mainly consisted of KFC buckets; while Tim showed us that the people of Frome live in black and white and made funny references to a nearby taxi driver.
By this point, the crowd at Brazz were ready for their headline act and on came Nick Revell who, probably because he wanted a few kind words on his performance, thanked his fellow acts and me, his “best friend, Sam”.
The veteran comedian was just what the comedy doctor ordered; pulling off an array of jokes and antics which appealed to everyone. His enthusiastic impression of a constant-drunk Churchill received a round of applause.
Another fun-filled night of comedy in Taunton; it’s been a pleasure meeting the acts and organisers, like Trish Caller and Genius PR, who’ve brought great things to the town and I do hope you all keep supporting them.
