I write in frustration again at the failure of all politicians, local, regional and national to have a real grasp at what is happening to our planet.

Alan Debenham seems to have become a columnist in his own right.

Why?

I wish he wasn't so tediously repetitive!

Going through last week's Gazette - Thursday, October 17 - I'm pleased to see that our MP Gideon Amos has, on page six, made a claim that he supports the new Climate and Nature Bill - too little too late perhaps.

On page eight there is reference to the plans to the growing risk of localised flooding on the application to build new homes on the A38 Wellington Road and Honiton Road.

On page 10 there is reference to the impact of phosphate mitigation required to meet the net increase in phosphate levels.

The dangers from this cannot be overestimated, as councillor Simon Coles who chaired the Somerset County Council committee meeting asking for a habitat regulation assessment to be undertaken.

How crazy is it for Clark's Village to continue with its festive ice rink as we're told on page 15 of the paper!

Sheer madness!

I'm pleased that on page 26 both Phil Hill and Sigurd Reimers have in their respective columns stressed the need for leaving lasting legacies that recognise both love and climate change study groups, especially within the ranks of the local University of the Third Age branches - of which I am an unashamed member - is suggesting that grandparents have an important part to play in encouraging young children to understand what is happening.

Other noticeable changes over the years which have been mentioned in the Gazette were the wonderful murmurations of the starlings and their mimicry.

Sadly I haven't seen one now for some six years I think with the decline in most species of birds wiped out by bird flu or manmade obstructions to their continuation of life.

Yours faithfully,
