Hello editor,
Oh how I agree with your comments on today’s grammar!
I’m 73 and was lucky to have had a good basic state education in the 50s and 60s.
It’s quite shocking that people today have so little knowledge of the basics of English.
They were drilled into us but of course today it would probably be considered ‘a form of abuse’ of children.
One of the worst offending words is going for a country walk and maybe stopping somewhere for a well-earned cuppa and seeing the word Tea’s.
Absolutely cringeworthy to you and I!
Digressing - another topic is the appalling lack of knowledge most people today have about basic geography when you watch quiz shows.
How sad it is to know so little about the planet they live on.
But as you said, teachers themselves are no better.
Some family members work in a boarding school and it’s the same there.
I’m glad I grew up when I did.
Thank you for reading!
Kind regards
Alison Llewellyn-Eaton
