A WOMAN from Somerset who created a list of things she wanted to see before going blind has made PA's list of 2023's most positive stories.
Tiggi Trethowan, who lives near Cheddar, wanted to create a “visual memory list” after being told by doctors she will eventually go completely blind, so she can visit places she has particularly loved or wants to travel to.
Her black Labrador Jackie, who she described as her 'absolute life' has accompanied her on some of her trips, which included Patagonia, Chile and Antarctica.
She even took on Go Ape Bracknell’s Treetop Challenge, with the help of Mark 'Billy' Billingham, from Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins.
Reflecting on the outing, Tiggi said: “We did the really big zip line together and I turned to him and said ‘have I broken you’ and he said ‘finally, you have broken me’.”
Ms Trethowan has advised people who may be worried about losing their sight to “never give up, never give in”.
“It’s a diagnosis. Yes, it could potentially be life-limiting, but it is not life threatening.
“It is simply a form of renavigation.
"After coming to terms with it, I realised that losing my sight has given me more than it has taken away."
