A CONCERNED motorist has issued a warning over what he believes is persistently dangerous driving on roads in West Somerset.

David Luckett, 48, of Sampford Brett, told the County Gazette he has had multiple encounters with a driver who has repeatedly overtaken him before braking sharply on the A358 and the A39 between Williton and Minehead.

On one occasion, David said his girlfriend Katie Percival’s car was written off after she was unable to avoid running into the back of the same man’s vehicle when he braked suddenly.

He left the scene without providing insurance details.

The couple say they have met three other people from the area who have had similar experiences.

David said: “Drivers need to be very vigilant and careful of youngsters doing dangerous things and racing on these roads.

“I am shocked and appalled these people have such disregard for other road users. There are already so many accidents on that stretch of road.

“I have lived in London and Oxford but have never known so many fatalities in one area. “If you’ve got someone else in the car, as I often do, an accident could not only kill the driver but also the passenger.

“I think more needs to be done to improve road safety and in the meantime I think it’s vital awareness is raised about the unnecessary additional dangers caused by idiots on an already notorious road.”
