CEREMONIES have taken place to mark the first anniversary of the M5 disaster which saw seven people lose their lives in Somerset.

On November 4, 2011, a pile-up near Taunton claimed the lives of Malcolm Beacham, Kye Thomas, Tony and Pamela Adams, Michael and Maggie Barton, and Terry Brice.

Yesterday (Sunday), on the first anniversary of the crash, a permanent memorial to the victims was unveiled at Hankridge in Taunton, near the crash site.

A memorial concert took place at the Brewhouse Theatre in the town.

*Fireworks display organiser Geoffrey Counsell, 50, of Ashill, has been charged with seven counts of manslaughter in relation to the deaths. He is due to appear before Bristol Magistrates' Court on Monday (November 12).
