MEMBERS of Bridgwater Amateur Operatic Society have brought their much anticipated production of ‘The King and I’ to Bridgwater Town Hall this week.
Rodger and Hammerstein’s magnificent musical opens tonight (Wednesday) until Saturday (May 3).
The musical tells the tale of Anna Leonowens who moves from England to Siam with her son Louis after the death of her husband to become a teacher for the children of the King of Siam.
But the Siamese customs are quite a culture shock to Anna, bringing her into regular conflict with the king.
It’s not long however until they find themselves growing closer and their feelings changing.
Cultural clashes, forbidden love and some of the best songs in musical theatre including ‘Shall we Dance?’ and ‘Getting to Know You’, will make you feel part of the action.
Director Sue Pomeroy said: “This cast is one of the most talented I have worked with.
“I’m sure that the show would rival the very best that the society has presented over the years.”
Sue is joined by musical director Tony Pomeroy and choreographer Lucy Edwards.
Each show starts at 7.15pm with an additional matinee at 2.15pm on Saturday.
Tickets, which are selling fast, cost £10 to £16 and can be purchased from the Carnival Centre or by calling 01278-662181.
