LIKE a music promoter’s dream, they have laid on 58 shows with “not one unsold seat”.
Now, the Music On the Quantocks team are bracing themselves for a tidal wave of excitement as they announce their “biggest musical coup to date”.
The coup in question? The Hilliard Ensemble, pictured, who have picked MotQ to stage their final public performance at St Mary Magdalene Church, Taunton, on Wednesday, December 10.
MotQ’s Peter Lewis told the County Gazette: “The Hilliard Ensemble isn’t some obscure classical music group – they’ve topped the music charts in the US and Europe for more than 30 years, and their cross-over albums with saxophonist Jan Garbarek have sold millions.
“It has just been announced they're retiring in December, and for us, the enormity of their last public performance being in Taunton hasn't sunk in yet.
“How are we going to deal with all the music press? How are going to organise security?
“How are we going to handle the hundreds and thousands of enquiries from their fans around the world?
“It has started already with an email from a fan in Chicago, yet the concert hasn’t been announced in the US.”
Tickets, expected to sell like hotcakes, go on sale at 10am tomorrow (Friday), ranging from £5 to £35, and seats can be reserved by emailing quantocks@live.co.uk or calling 01823-451162.
