IAN Bradbury, head teacher of three West Somerset schools has resigned.
The announcement was made yesterday (May 7), in a letter to parents from Cerys Randell, chair of the governors.
Last week, the County Gazette reported how Mr Bradbury had been absent from his post since before Easter.
No explanation was given regarding the head of Danesfield Academy, St Peter's School and Old Cleeve 's absence.
Following Mr Bradbury's resignation, Dan Perry will lead the schools on a day to day basis with Nigel Johnson as his deputy.
Rob Benzie, recently retired head of Ansford Academy in Castle Cary will be providing strategic leadership and support for staff on an interim basis while arrangements are made for a permanent leadership appointment.
The letter goes on to say: "The governors wish to place on record their appreciation of Ian's achievements and wish him well in the future as he moves into a new phase of his life and career.
"We are confident that these interim arrangements will ensure that the education of all our children will not be adversely affected by leadership changes."
