ONE of the newest kids on Taunton’s amateur theatre block gets its teeth into a challenging production this week at the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre.
@2K Theatre presents ‘Abigail’s Party’, Mike Leigh’s 1970s’ suburban comedy of manners that is all a bit ‘Margot Leadbetter’ and explores the tensions and anxieties of the aspiring middle classes.
Beverly Moss invites her new neighbours, Angela and Tony, who moved into the road just two weeks ago, over for drinks. She has also invited divorcee Sue, whose 15-year-old daughter Abigail is holding a party at home.
With the ruthlessness of social climbing a key theme, the party inevitably begins in stiff and stilted fashion. But, as the alcohol starts to take effect, the facade starts to unravel.
Tickets cost £12/£10 for the play, which runs until Saturday at 7.30pm every night, plus a 2pm Saturday matinee. Call 01823-414141 or visit tacchi-morris.com to book.
