POLICE arrested a man this morning (May 10) near Frog Lane in Langport after he was found in possession of an air rifle.

A member of the public alerted the police after seeing a man lying on the ground with a gun aimed at oncoming traffic along the A378. 

A spokesperson for the police said: "We sent a firearms response and located the man. 

"He was arrested on the basis of the call we received but the incident was not as sinister as it appeared to be.

"He has since been de-arrested and officers may decide to make further enquiries."
