SOMERSET College has been awarded £1million towards an advanced centre of excellence from the Government’s Growth Fund.
The Wellington Road college is also putting up £2million for the initiative.
The project is seen as vital to deal with the skills shortages anticipated from the expansion plans at Hinkley Point nuclear power station.
Rebecca Pow, who is standing for the Conservatives at next year’s General Election, said: “The improved transport links achieved through the Taunton Station development will have a positive impact on the college proposals.”
The County Gazette reported last week that the Government had pledged £4.6million to revamp the station.
The windfall will see the main entrance switched to the other side of the station with shops, businesses, homes, improved parking and a transport hub.
