A WATCHET fundraiser has coined in more than £700 for charity after having all her hair shaved off.
Gill Judd, made the bold move to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
She hadn’t had her blonde locks cut for two years since her husband, Brian, died.
“He was the last person to cut it – he always cut my hair,’ said Gill. Brian carried on cutting Gill’s hair even when he was ill with cancer, and carried on until he was too ill to do it.
He sadly died in April, 2012.
Gill, of Ingrams Meadow, said Macmillan Cancer Support had been supportive of her and her husband, keeping in contact with her for 18 months after he died.
She said: “I felt the time now was right. “My hair was getting too long and I was fed up with putting it up in a roll at the back.”
The biggest difficulty for Gill was persuading her daughter, Dianne, that it was the right thing to do, but she was there among family and friends to give her mum support.
Gill said it was a spur of the moment decision to give something back to the charity which gave her so much support.
Jane Bliss, extra care scheme manager with Magna, arranged for hairdresser Leanne Barnes to shave off Gill’s hair.
Not only did Gill raise more than £700, but her hair is being used to create wigs for children with cancer. She covered up her newly shaved head with a wig she bought.
