ACADEMICS and professionals from top universities put 60 students from Richard Huish College, Taunton, through their paces at a mock interview.

The Huish students have all made UCAS applications to educational institutions across a range of subjects.

A team of 15 eminent academics from backgrounds including medicine, law, science and English helped prepare the students for their university interviews next month.

The ‘interviewers’, from University College London, Exeter University and Bristol University, conducted the formal event at The Exchange, in The Crescent, Taunton, as part of the college’s academic enrichment programme, which supports students through the rigorous university application process.

Richard Jones, careers officer at Huish, said: “The students felt that it was incredibly worthwhile in preparing them for what is a very selective and demanding process. It gave them the opportunity to engage with an academic in their chosen field and receive a critique of how they performed so that they can improve for the real thing.”
