SUPPORTERS of the Save Wellington campaign are planning a day of action in the town centre this Saturday.
And they are also formalising plans for a protest march through Wellington early next month.
Save Wellington members are opposed to the building of 650 homes by CG Fry and Son on the Jurston Farm site.
They say that – with two major developments already under way at Cades and Longforth Farm – enough is enough.
Last month, they staged a public meeting at Wellesley Park Primary School which was attended by more than 100 people.
Now the group will be out in force on Saturday, lobbying members of the public and collecting signatures on their protest petition – already signed by more than 700 people.
The protest march is provisionally scheduled for Saturday, December 6 – although the group has yet to obtain formal permission from the police and other statutory bodies.
The following Tuesday, December 9, members are calling for a mass turnout at Deane House in Taunton as Deane council members are expected to hold a full debate and vote on the development.
A Save Wellington spokesman said: “We have received overwhelming support at the protest events we have staged so far.
“Now we are calling on the people of our town to get behind us at these three major events.
“Wellington already has two huge developments under way – at Cades and Longforth Farm – without any improvements to its infrastructure.
“Make no mistake, everyone in the town is going to be affected by the building of 1,800 new homes.
“It’s time we, as a town, stood up and told Taunton Deane Council: ‘No more.’”
