HOUSING and homelessness charity Shelter is urgently appealing for support for its helpline this winter.
Over the last year, the helpline’s advisers spoke to more than 4,500 callers on the brink of homelessness, a 44% surge from 2012.
Callers from the South-West rose to a record high.
Shelter revealed that 36 households in the South West are at risk of losing their home every day.
Shelter helpline adviser Nadeem Khan said: “It’s so heartbreaking to hear from families struggling to keep a roof over their heads, especially at this time of year.”
Shelter is supported by Marks and Spencer and the charity is asking shoppers to buy their lunch from M&S’ Food on the Move range to help increase the £7.5m the retailer has already raised for Shelter.
