- Some 11 million people aged 65 or over live in the UK
- More than 22.7 million people are aged 50 and over – over a third of the total UK population
- In 2010, about 640,000 people in the UK turned 65; in 2012, the figure was about 800,000.
- The number turning 65 is projected to decrease gradually over the next five years to about 650,000 in 2017
- More people in the UK are aged 60 and above than under 18
- The number of centenarians in the UK has risen by 73% over the last decade to 13,350 in 2012.
