COUNCIL bosses say they have helped small shop owners in Taunton Deane save over £200,000 in business rates.
A publicity drive resulted in many premises applying for rate relief up to £1,000 after being sent application forms with their bills, and council staff followed this up by checking with those who qualified for the relief but had not applied.
The scheme was launched at the start of this financial year to help businesses with a rateable value under £50,000.
Businesses excluded from the scheme included banks, estate agents, solicitors and accountants.
Any business wanting to enquire about the business rates scheme should contact the revenues department at the council on 01823 356433.
