POLICE, paramedics and fire crews were called to a road traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a car in the centre of Taunton earlier today (Saturday).
A man had been knocked off of his motorcycle and became trapped underneath a car in a collision that happened just after 11am.
Priory Bridge Road outbound was closed for several hours as fire crews worked to free the casualty from beneath the vehicle using jacks and cutting equipment.
The male casualty was then taken to hospital via road ambulance and a second casualty within the car was also treated by ambulance crews for shock.
The road closure resulted in widespread traffic congestion on the surrounding routes in Taunton.
Slow moving traffic in and around Priory Fields Retail Park, Priory Avenue, Priory park and A358 Obridge Viaduct and A38 Toneway quickly backed up causing long delays for many motorists.
The Priory Bridge Road was re-opened by police at around 4pm.
