SKATERS are slip-sliding their way into Christmas on an artificial ice rink at Hestercombe’s Winter Won-derland.

The attraction remains at the historic house and gardens until January 4.

A Hestercombe spokesman said: “As the nights draw in and the frost settles Hestercombe takes on an entrancing winter mantle.

“Building on the huge success of previous seasonal and festive activities, this years’ Winter Wonderland is more magical and sparkling than ever!

“The rink is located in its own indoor festive cocoon where you can skate whatever the weather – and being artificial it’s not half as cold or wet when you land on it!

“The gardens themselves are stunning at this time of year, whether on a crisp frosty morning or during low afternoon light.”

Other attractions at the venue are:

  • Wonderland Walk, open from 4.30pm from December 13 to January 5 every evening from 4.30pm. Walkers can explore the gardens as the light fades and the illuminations take over. The trail also features art works created for Hestercombe.
  • Father Christmas in his grotto from December 13 to Christmas Eve.
  • Festive performances: Saturday (December 13), 6pm – Taunton-based Amici in the Great Hall; Sunday (December 14), 2pm and 5pm – A Christmas Mystery with The Bluebirds, an opera duo presenting a festive show featuring humour, a strong-willed Mary and real life donkeys; Monday, December 22, 2pm – Bridgwater Show & Youth Choir.
