There were traffic troubles on the M5 between junctions 25 and 26 after a car was totally destroyed by fire this afternoon.

A fire service spokesman said that Fire Control received multiple calls for a car on fire on the M5 southbound just after noon.

Two fire appliances from Taunton attended and found a car well alight on the hard shoulder.

Crews used two sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Lanes one and were coned off with only lane three remaining open.

The vehicle was 100% destroyed by fire.
