TAUNTON School has won a prestigious national award from the Good Schools Guide.
It won the top award for girls taking logic/philosophy at an English Independent School (International Baccalaureate Diploma, Higher Level).
The annual awards, which are in their ninth year, are based on a detailed analysis of the most recent examination results, and are designed to highlight consistently good teaching.
Headmaster, Mr Lee Glaser, said: “It is wonderful to be acknowledged in this way for our excellence in the International Baccalaureate, as we are one of the few top schools offering the IB at Sixth Form level in the South West.
“The IB has been established worldwide for over 40 years and is becoming increasingly well-known in the UK.
“It has been a highly successful option for many sixth form students at Taunton School, with IB Diploma students of all abilities achieving excellent results and securing places at good universities in the UK, the US and beyond.”
Ralph Lucas, editor of the Good Schools Guide, added: “Our annual awards scheme is designed to recognise and reward excellence in teaching in every subject area at both GCSE and A Level or equivalent. Our awards give individual teachers and departments where teaching is at its very best the recognition they deserve.”
The Good Schools Guide Awards are based on a series of calculations which take into account relative popularity and performance of the subject, absolute performance, and percentage of pupils taking the subject.
Taunton School is holding an IB information evening next Thursday, November 12 at 6.30pm in the Arts Centre in the senior school for parents and students from local schools to find out more about the IB programme at sixth form.
The school offers bursaries of up to 100% for local students joining the school at sixth form to study IB.
