CHRIS Appleby has resigned as a councillor on Taunton Deane Council.
Mr Appleby, a LibDem who is one of three representatives of the Halcon ward in Taunton, is taking up a job that preclues him from carrying on at the Deane House.
He has been in the role since May 2015's elections.
A council spokeswoman said: "A notice of vacancy is being published by the council."
To call an election, a request must be made in writing to the returning officer at Taunton Deane Council by two electors.
If a by election is called, it is likely to take place by the end of February.
