A FAMILY from Taunton will have their most intimate family moments bared on TV next week for all to see.
The Cooper family will be appearing in a new six-part series starting on Channel 5 next Tuesday, called The Secret Life of the Family.
The show captures the lives of six British families 24 hours a day, seven days a week to show how much in common we all have with each other.
The first episode looks at chores, and sees the mums go on strike, getting the men and kids to do the housework.
Mum Mandy, who works as a receptionist for Newsquest Somerset, said she applied for the show in 2013 after seeing an appeal for families on Twitter.
“My daughter Maddie is quite into drama and I thought this would be a good experience for her,” she said.
“I didn’t tell my family about the show, I just told them that I had applied which had a mixed reaction.
“My husband Andy was very apprehensive and because we’ve not seen any cuts or anything from it I feel a bit apprehensive now as well - you just don’t know how they’re going to portray you.”
Mum Mandy, dad Andy and kids Joseph, Elliot and Maddie were filmed by crews for a week back in August 2014.
Mandy, 45 added: “They did a pilot back in 2013 and then told us they didn’t want us to be in the show but then they asked us in 2014 and came to film for a week.
“I didn’t mind it because with me what you see is what you get and I have nothing to hide.
“The film crew were really lovely as well, there are bits which are staged but most of what you see is just us.”
Mandy and Andy have been married for 22 years and live near Castle School with 14-yearold Elliot and 12-year-old Maddie.
Eldest son Joseph, 18, is at university.
Mandy added: “There was a classic family moment I think they’ll show, where Andy was teaching Elliot how to make a chilli.
“I had just started Slimming World and I went crazy when I found out they didn’t use Frylight, the crew were in stitches.”
The Secret Life of the Family narrated by comedian Hugh Dennis, will be shown on Channel Five on January 12 at 10pm.
