PEOPLE in Somerset are being invited to support the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance by purchasing items with a yellow theme to match the organisation’s colour from a farm shop near Taunton.
Rumwell Farm Shop is donating 10p from each sale of its dozen, large, free range eggs and 10p from each bag of sherbet lemons to one of its charities of the year, the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, until the end of the year.
Anne Mitchell, joint owner of the farm shop, said: “We wanted to host a fundraiser that could last for a number of months and it seemed like a great idea to donate money from each sale of our eggs and lemon sherbets to the charity.
“We are aiming to raise at least £2,000 for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance during 2016 and this will be a great fundraiser for them as our free range eggs are very popular.”
The charity launched in March 2000 and has flown more than 11,000 missions, many of them life-saving.
Its operational costs are more than £2 million a year and the approximate cost per mission is £2,500.
With public support it is also able to purchase specialist pieces of equipment that aid its paramedics’ training and help to save lives across the two counties.
Debbie Birtwisle, fundraising coordinator – Somerset for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Rumwell Farm Shop for hosting this fundraiser for us.
“It’s a great way to help us raise funds and awareness of the work we do helping people in Dorset and Somerset.”
