MINEHEAD rowers surged from behind to take first place in a thrilling annual Sea Trophy rowing race on Sunday.
Minehead Sailing and WaterSports Club mixed team of John Sanderson (cox), Dave Legg, Lorraine Slinn, Sally Bellamy and Ron Tyler pushed forward from last place to produce a magnificent win by three boat lengths at Exmouth.
The highlight of the two-mile race along Exmouth sea front was at the final mark where several oars clashed between the Minehead and Exmouth crews during the turn.
In the men's race the Minehead team of John Sanderson, Phil Sanderson, Ron Tyler, Dave Legg, and Martin Shoots came in second place behind 1st Exmouth after a closely fought battle with the Mayflower offshore rowing club.
The race is due to be hosted by the Minehead Club next year.
