The Lib Dem leader spoke to volunteers at the Burnham Area Rescue Boat charity which operates two life-saving rescue hovercrafts.
Mr Farron then addressed activists on the beach before boarding the craft for a journey along the sands at low tide.
He said: "That was great, and it shows they are the fourth emergency service."
