TALES of blood and glory are coming to Taunton Castle as part of the Westival - a festival of music, theatre and visual art, taking place from July 21-29.

Many of the events this year's events are being staged in the courtyard of Taunton Castle, home of the County Museum.

On July 23, people can enjoy "An audience with Henry VIII" with Mike Farley, one of the UK's leading impersonators of the king.

On July 25, "Blood and Glory: Tales of Taunton and its Castle" will recount Taunton's colourful past. Tom Mayberry will be revealing the history of Taunton's medieval castle.

The money raised through both events will go towards Somerset County Council's Museum of Somerset fundraising appeal.

Recently launched by Mick Aston of television's "Time Team", the campaign aims to secure £250,000 of the total £6.5million required to restore Taunton Castle and create a modern museum inside.

Carrie Blogg, Museum of Somerset project manager, said: "Mike has an imposing figure and uses a booming voice with wicked humour and musical skills to portrait the character. The audience will be treated to a feast of authentic medieval nibbles.

"We are really excited about putting these shows on. The opportunity to use the historic setting of Taunton Castle is fantastic and will make the atmosphere very special. Both promise to be very entertaining while at the same time raise funds for a good cause."

Full details and tickets for all Westival events are available from the web address below or by calling the Brewhouse Theatre on 01823-283244.

Donations can be made to the public fundraising campaign by visiting the County Museum and putting money into the replica castle keep. There is also a display in the museum where people can learn more about the plans for the museum of Somerset.
