I WRITE with reference to your article regarding responsible dog ownership covering dog fouling (Clean up: Don’t give your dog a bad name, July 13), stray dogs and control in public places and Taunton Deane Borough Council’s endeavours to raise “responsible dog ownership”.
May I raise the issue of noise levels and other behaviour issues?
I have recently moved into the area and I have never come across so many noisy and badly-behaved dogs.
Their owners allow them to bark incessantly at any time of day or night.
Dogs bark when people past on public pavements, they bark when brought out of the house for walks, they bark when let out into their back gardens.
It happens at 11pm, or 1.30am, or 5am. It is incessant and unbelievable and all local dogs join in to extend the bush telegraph.

I am a dog owner and while out walking I frequently witness dogs in the house throwing themselves at the windows with such ferocity with barking and snarling it frightens me to think what would happen if they were to break out.
I have never allowed my dog (out of three dogs I have owned) to race out into the garden barking unnecessarily at any time of the day or night.
Why can’t “dog lovers/owners” control their animals? I rarely witness these dogs being told off.
I fear it is the common problem of no bad dogs, just bad inconsiderate owners. There are enough TV programmes these days to show them how to do things.
