INSPIRED by the Taunton Deane Borough Council and County Gazette campaign, a mother and daughter duo have decided to carry out a sponsored litter pick to benefit two good causes.
Jamie Jones, 35, and her daughter - two-year-old Purple - will be going out each day for a week and clearing some of the rubbish cluttering Taunton’s streets.
Their efforts will not only help improve the appearance of the town but they are also hoping to collect sponsorship money for the Books for Musgrove Park Hospital’s Children’s Ward fundraising campaign.
Mrs Jones said: “I’ve been thinking of ways to raise funds for a campaign I started, to get some brand new children’s books for Musgrove and after seeing the litter campaign I thought, why not combine the two?
“I’m aiming to raise £600 and if I can, children’s book publisher Usborne Books at Home, will top it up with an extra 60 per cent in free books. We have raised just over £400 of the target so we are really close.
“And I think it’s also a great way to teach my daughter about the importance of not dropping litter and how we can all do our bit to make our communities that bit nicer.”
Purple and Jamie will be cleaning up from Saturday until Friday, August 18, spending at least an hour a day litter picking.
