A SILVER anniversary celebration is being held in a wood where a tree is planted for every child born in Taunton Deane.
Somerset Wildlife Trust (SWT) is hosting an apple day event in Children's Wood, in Taunton, to mark the launch of the Children's Wood Project in 1992.
Since then around 3,000 trees have been planted on the site beside the River Tone and it has been declared a Local Nature Reserve.
SWT is inviting Children's Wood babies and anyone who planted a tree to the apple day on Saturday, October 28, from 11am to 3pm.
The event, in association with Somerset Art Works, will include family activities such as apple juicing, arts and crafts and apple head carving, as well as an apple circus run by FUSE Performance, with skills such as juggling and tricks.
Jolyon Chesworth, SWT’s nature and wellbeing manager, said: "The River Tone corridor is not only a really important habitat and movement corridor for a host of wonderful wildlife species such as otters, bats and kingfishers, it also brings together some amazing green spaces, rich in wildlife, which local communities are able to enjoy with their families.
"Children’s Wood is one of those fantastic green spaces which has been supported incredibly well by local community groups and trust volunteers, so it’s great that we can celebrate the space, bring the community together and thank our volunteers, including those from Viridor Waste Management, for helping us keep Taunton’s natural places healthy for wildlife."
