TAUNTON Sea Cadets were awarded a Challenge Shield by organisers of a Commemorative Gala at Smeatharpe Airfield.
The South-West Airfields Heritage Trust had invited members of Taunton Sea Cadets (TS Roebuck) to provide practical help and re-enact some of the field day activities which took place at the 439th Troop Carrier Group 50th Wing Troop Carrier Command based at Upottery Station 462 in the summer of 1944.
Cadets enjoyed the opportunity to see and hear historical memorabilia and responded to the challenges posed by Yarcombe Young Farmers to chase a pig and pillow fight on a greasy pole.
The Taunton Unit of The Sea Cadets meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office in Taunton and offer a programme of activities for boys and girls aged ten-18 and can called on 01823-337900.
