SHOPPERS at a Taunton supermarket are going bananas for Fairtrade.
As from now, all bananas sold at the Hankridge Farm branch of Sainsbury's will be Fairtrade.
Fairtrade means that a fair and sustainable return is paid to the banana growers.
To celebrate the move, all customers will be offered double Nectar points on goods carrying the Fairtrade mark from Make the Difference Day, August 16, until September 11.
Customers at the Hankridge Farm store buy 500,000 bananas a year.
Alun Evans, store manager, said: "The staff and I are very excited that our fifth Make the Dfference Day is celebrating our conversion to 100% Fairtrade bananas.
"Moving every banana we sell to Fairtrade has been a major project, but most importantly, our customers have not had to pay for this move.
"Our Fairtrade bananas are now the same price as conventional bananas sold by other supermarkets, while the Fairtrade logo means that a fair and sustainable return is always paid to our growers, whatever the retail price.
The firm's monthly Make the Difference Days' are aimed at encouraging positive action and change.
