BARRY Hughes has been appointed Chief Crown Prosecutor for Avon and Somerset.
His new role also includes an overarching responsibility for the CPS Areas in the South West, covering Devon and Cornwall and Gloucestershire.
Mr Hughes predecessor, David Archer, has now been appointed Chief Crown Prosecutor for Gwent.
Mr Hughes said: "I am delighted to start in my new post as Chief Crown Prosecutor for Avon and Somerset. The criminal justice system is in the process of much needed reform and I will ensure that CPS Avon and Somerset fully plays its part in delivering justice.
"I am determined to work closely with the police to bring more offenders to justice, to listen to community concerns and to further improve the position of victims and witnesses. The CPS has made great progress in the past five years, but there is more to do and I am proud to take a lead role in this beautiful part of the country."
