More than 130 people in Taunton were caught watching TV without a licence in the first six months of 2007, according to latest figures.
Katrina Cinus, spokesperson for TV Licensing in the South West, said though evasion levels remained low, the organisation would continue to track down those who tried to get away with watching TV without a valid licence.
Miss Cinus said TV Licensing's fleet of detector vans - together with ever-more effective technology, including new handheld detection equipment - meant it was simply not worth taking a risk.
"The message to the minority in Taunton who try to evade is clear - if you are watching TV without a licence, expect a knock on the door," she said.
There are several ways to pay for a TV licence, including Direct Debit, via the web (see the link) or visiting a local PayPoint outlet.
