A GROUP of young people from the Taunton area are resting their weary limbs this week after taking part in a fun run to raise money for cancer research.
Nine teenagers from St Augustine of Canterbury School in Taunton and four from Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe took part in the Exeter leg of the Race For Life, held at the Westpoint Centre.
And they were joined on the five kilometre run by Connexions Somerset personal advisers Nikki Sampson, Michelle Ponte and Nicky Foster.
The three work with the young people during the school term and also help organise activities for them during the summer holidays.
Michelle said: "It was the young people themselves who suggested the Race For Life. They wanted to do something that was good fun but which also raised money for a worthy cause at the same time."
Luckily, the recent bad weather held off for the day and produced ideal running conditions.
Nicole Smith from St Augustine's came in first for the Somerset group, completing the 5km in 28 minutes.
After the race Nicky said: "It was great fun taking part - but as none of us are really runners I think we will be nursing a few aches and pains for a few weeks to come!"
The group hopes to have raised about £600 for cancer research.
